I voted today!

I voted today at my local elementary school. There was a laundry list of judges on the ballot. So, it was a good thing I had e-mailed myself an endorsement list that I could at least use to figure out whats what on that end. My polling location was fairly quick and there was hardly any wait. If it hadn’t been for all of the political signs up on the front of the yard , I wouldn’t have known it was an election day. The caucus is still about 5 hours away. I will be brining my parents with me to the same school when the time comes.

All I have to say is that after all of this campaigning, I am relieved to have finally been able to cast my vote.  Now we wait…

Hello Michael,
Did you have any problems caucusing? I caucused at a baptist church on greenhouse rd. until 2am. Among the caucus goers there was much anger. We were not let in the door until about midnight. They blamed it on people still voting. The voters were upset because the polling place had six machines for each party. All of the dems voting machines were overflooded with voters. While usually the republicans used 1 or two machines. Many supports left. There were a few senior citizens outside determined to wait, but it was horrible for them. There were children, who had to take the TAKS test today, there until the end. I almost didn’t make it myself because I had to be up before 6am to administer the TAKS. It was a brutal experience for the dedicated. Who should I compain to?

In fact I did not have the chance to caucus either. I showed up at 7pm and there were still people in line to vote. After about 45 minutes they still had not finished and I had to leave for my part-time job. So, I left without ever having had the chance to sign in and have my preference counted. I hear this kind of thing happened many times over in Texas. It sucks because I think this type of voting adversely affects Clinton supporters. As an example, my grandmother went to caucus but when she found out her wait would be over an hour she decided not to stick around because her hip would start hurting standing for that long. So she said she would not stay to caucus ( I don’t know if she did or not). Not to mention at my own precinct I saw only one elderly woman who was waiting with us in her wheel chair with blankets and all. I don’t know if she was able to stick around, but my parents said all together it was over 4 hours before they were able to vote in the caucus and leave. That is just ridiculous.

I agree. My main problem with the caucus is that it doesn’t truely represent the all people and that’s what voting should be about.

Turning Texas Blue – The Caucus Experience

[...] After voting in the morning at 7am and a long day, my girlfriend and I returned to the polling place a bit before 7pm. The last voters finished up around 7:30, and the disorder that followed seemed to be the rule for the inexperienced Texas caucusgoers — but perhaps not as bad as reader Bibi reported. [...]
