Senate Candidates Debate Over Change
Rick Noriega, and Ray McMurrey met last night at the University of Texas for a debate hosted by University Democrats, and Keep Austin Blue. Over 150 enthusiastic Austinites showed up for the debate, comprised mostly of students. Both candidates stressed the importance of a democratic victory over John Cornyn, the Republican incumbent for the Senate seat, however McMurrey also managed to talk about differences between himself, and heavily favored Noriega.
While Noriega talked about Cornyn’s lack of support for public schools, McMurrey explained that he wasn’t even satisfied with the level of support that Noriega, and the other democrats in the legislature were proposing.
When asked for their views on publicly funded elections, Noriega mentioned Cornyn’s pockets being full of money from special interests, while McMurrey said it would be the first piece of legislation he would write once he was elected to the Senate.
Unsurprisingly, the one issue that Noriega and McMurrey seemed to completely agree on was immigration. They support having a legal pathway to citizenship.
So while Noriega wants to change the failed policies of John Cornyn, McMurrey is advocating changing a whole lot more.
